Social media · what should social media management include

What should a social media management package include?

The phrase ‘social media management’ can describe anything from scheduling supplied posts to running an entire content operation. This is how to tell the difference.

1. A written strategy

The scope should identify the audience, commercial objective, content territories, channel roles and the action each platform should encourage. Without that layer, a calendar can be busy without building a recognisable position.

  • Audience and priority segments
  • Channel selection and purpose
  • Content pillars and recurring formats
  • Voice and response principles
  • Primary conversion route

2. A defined content system

The proposal should separate supplied material from original production. If photography, Reels, design, scripts or editing are included, the volume and production allocation should be visible.

  • Concept development and monthly planning
  • Photography and video capture
  • Reels, Stories and platform cut-downs
  • Design, copy and captions
  • Asset storage and approval workflow

3. Publishing and community responsibility

Scheduling is not the same as community management. A useful scope names who publishes, who responds, operating hours, expected response time, prohibited topics and the path for complaints or sensitive questions.

4. Reporting that creates a decision

A monthly report should explain what happened and what changes next. Useful analysis compares hooks, subjects, formats, retention and actions instead of displaying platform totals without context.

  • What earned and held attention
  • Which content created meaningful action
  • What underperformed and why
  • What the next cycle will repeat, stop or test
  • Where enquiry quality can be connected to the content

5. Ownership, access and exclusions

The client should retain appropriate ownership and access to brand accounts, ad accounts and analytics. The proposal should also state whether ad spend, travel, talent, props, raw files, extra revisions and after-hours response are excluded.

FAQ

Questions people ask before they choose.

Does social media management include content creation?

It can, but it is not automatic. The proposal should say exactly how much original photography, video, design, copy and editing is included.

Does it include replying to messages and comments?

Only when community management is in scope. Response hours, escalation rules and sensitive-topic handling should be agreed first.

How many posts should a business publish?

There is no universal number. Frequency should follow the platform, audience, available production quality and the role the channel plays in the buying journey.
